Artist Statement
My family is rather artsy. Four of my five brothers are musicians, and Laura, my only sister, played the flute in her high school marching band. Actually, our Dad gave up playing the clarinet after he met Mom; he had to sell it in order to have the money to marry her!
Seventeen years ago, or so, I began my journey with paint. I have been creating all my life with fabrics, color, design, and thread, but I have found that painting in oils challenges me the most. I once read that 'one's painting style lies within oneself', and I believe that to be true.
I love to paint wildlife and seascapes. I like to go a little 'off the beaten path' with my artwork. For instance, in "Six Figures", the flowers
have their own life. Or you might notice in "Frigates", the sky and ocean are totally palette knife and the water has it's own personality.
I feel that a painting must have some kind of drama; something that draws the viewer to the artwork. It could be the contrast from dark to light, the artists' use of color, or perhaps the subject matter is bold and bright or soft and muted. In some of my work, I have incorporated the use of the palette knife, which brings another dimension to my paintings. Artists have to grow and change or we become stale.
For further information about what I have been doing with my art these past years, please see the
"Curriculum Vitae" for the galleries, art shows, and exhibits that I have been a part of.
Thank you, and I hope you love my art!
